Prospective Sponsors
Welcome
American Football may not seem like the most obvious
sport to play or support in a country where we already
have such a wide range of sports played to a high level.
But the sheer professionalism and global marketing capacity
of the NFL
(the National Football League) means that American Football
is one of the fastest growing sports in the United Kingdom.
Bristol is one of the strongholds of American Football
in the UK, with over 200 registered players currently
representing Bristol’s various teams. But only
now will Bristol University, for the first time, have
its own team.
A Professional Organisation
The Bristol Barracuda is a University Sports team with
a substantial difference. It is being established and
managed not only by students, but also by some of the
leading names in UK American Football – professional
personnel with extensive experience of launching competitive
teams with the
British Universities American Football League. This
is not the world of bouncing cheques or student loans,
but a club established with a viable business plan and
a formidable array of talent in its administrative ranks.
American Football teams are large enterprises, and the
Bristol Barracuda squad numbers some 50 elite athletes,
along with a large support staff of coaches and administrators,
all dedicated to promoting the 'Cuda on a national stage.
The Barracuda are fully committed to a range of community
projects which will further enhance the publicity the
team will receive. School demonstrations and various
grass-roots initiatives will take the game to young
people who have never tried the sport – all in
the spotlight of the press.
Our Aims
The Bristol Barracuda are unashamedly ambitious. For
many years, players from Bristol University have turned
out for the local UWE Bullets – a team based around
the University of the West of England. Recently, it
became very apparent that the Bristol University Players
are among the best players at the Bullets. This year,
two Bristol University players were selected for the
Great Britain Bulldogs (the student representative side)
and three others were selected to represent the South
versus the North. Based on past form, then, it is clear
that the Barracuda will attract some of the finest student
athletes in the country, continuing the strong tradition
of Bristol University Sport.
Backed by a quite exceptional coaching staff, the Barracuda
have entered the British Universities American Football
League, travelling to fixtures as disparate as Glasgow
and Plymouth, Aberystwyth and Norwich. The Bristol Barracuda
aim to be the leading University-based American Football
team in the country by 2012 – an eminently achievable
target.
