Barracuda once again involved in Festival of Sport

On Monday 4th June, a beautiful summer day, volunteers from Bristol Barracuda took part in the Secondary Schools’ Festival of Sport at Coombe Dingle. This event is a yearly fixture for Cuda, taking a day to teach 11-13 year old kids from local schools some of the skills that go into playing American Football, and for some introducing them to the benefits of sports as a whole. The day has a focus on inclusivity, something really important for encouraging kids to express themselves and see the benefits sport can provide throughout their lifetimes, mentally and physically. Our station proved to be a favourite, with the kids getting the opportunity to run drills in throwing and catching as well as games of bulldog and obstacle courses, creating a great day for all involved. Only a few from each session of 40 kids had even seen American Football before, so hopefully days like Festival of Sport could encourage the next generation of players to take up the game, and maybe someday join Cuda!

Thanks to Bristol University SEH, SU GameChanger volunteers and the schools for helping to come together and provide the opportunity for us to work with those in our local community and make a difference.
